Intertainment: UNICEF Gala
Munich, 12 May 2000 - Media group
Intertainment AG is the sole sponsor of the traditional charity gala at this
year's Cannes Film Festival. The German film company is jointly hosting the
event at Château de la Napoule together with the prestigious movie magazine
Moving Pictures. The international gala, which will be taking place on Friday,
19 May, will be attended by some 3,500 guests. Intertainment nominated the
United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, as the main recipient of the gala
proceeds. The Children's Fund is to use the donation for famine relief in
Ethiopia.
Intertainment has been working together with UNICEF for some time. The cartoon
character "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," for example, has been the
symbol of the joint campaign "Kids for Kids" since November 1999.
Intertainment holds the rights to Rudolph for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The media group, which is listed at Frankfurt's Neuer Markt stock exchange, is
also represented at Cannes by the movie "Things You Can Tell Just By
Looking At Her." The US production featuring Glenn Close, Cameron Diaz,
Holly Hunter and Calista Flockhart in the main roles, will open the part of the
programme called "Un Certain Regard." Intertainment holds European
rights to this film.
Since 10 May, "The Whole Nine Yards" (French title "Mon Voisin Le
Tueur"), a new film from Intertainment's archives, has been running in
French cinemas. The action-packed comedy featuring Bruce Willis in the leading
role, has been one of the most successful movies this year since its February
release in US cinemas.
